Bannalp - the insider tip in the Engelberg Valley. The circular hiking snowshoe trail offers wonderful views.
From Oberrickenbach in the lower Engelberg valley, "the blue cable car" takes you to the starting point of this easy snow shoe hike. At the top station of the Fell-Chrüzhütte Bannalp cable car, the landmark of the small winter sports area, the Bietstock, immediately catches the eye. The snowshoe trail leads slightly downhill through the snow-covered winter forest to the Bannalpsee lake, with the sharp points "behind you" and the view ahead towards Walenstöcke, which pile up imposingly above the alp.
The trail passes slightly above the frozen and snow-covered reservoir, which has been supplying the canton of Nidwalden with electricity since the 1930s. Through a light fir grove, on the right hand side the Bannalpbach, the trail climbs regularly and gently towards the mountain restaurant Urnerstaffel. Here, cold feet and hands can be thawed over a cup of hot tea before returning to the starting point via open terrain.
The area Wolfenschiessen - Bannalp can be reached in approx. 15-20 in. by car or by public transport from Engelberg or Stans.
Please walk along the marked and secured snowshoe paths. The user is responsible for the proposed routes. If you are planning a different route, please refer to the avalanche bulletin, maps and weather forecast.
Snowshoes can be hired directly at the valley station. You must bring your own winter clothing, good shoes and sun protection.
Enjoy snowshoeing by moonlight with raclette fun in the mountain guesthouse Urnerstaffel.
