Nextbike in brief
Nextbike is a bike hire system and sees itself as part of public transport. The flexible use of bikes is the perfect complement to buses, trains or motorised private transport. The bikes can be hired around the clock using an app. There are a total of 350 Nextbike stations and over 1300 bikes in 35 municipalities in Central Switzerland. The bikes can be rented and returned at these stations.

Nextbike is very popular in Central Switzerland, with almost 750,000 bikes rented in 2024.

nextbike for locals
Numerous municipalities give their residents the subscription to nextbike. They want to encourage their residents to get on their bikes more often. Find out at https://www.nextbike.ch/de/, whether your municipality is taking part. After the one-off registration, which costs one franc, you can register quickly and easily directly at the nextbike station and use a bike free of charge for four hours at a time - as often as you like.Nextbike reduces the free usage time for residents of the participating municipalities. This also includes Ennetmoos, Hergiswil, Oberdorf, Sarnen, Stans, Stansstad and Wolfenschiessen. The first 30 minutes are now free of charge - instead of the previous four hours. After that, every quarter of an hour costs one franc.

Top 3 bike tours

1: Enjoyable bike tour from Stansstad to Kehrsiten
Culture enthusiasts can make a stopover at the carving tower. This used to be a defence tower and is over 700 years old! Continue along the riverside road. What many people don't realise: Some of the towering rock faces are not real! Hidden behind them is the Fürigen Fortress, a bunker built during the Second World War. It is now a museum and definitely worth a visit. However, as it is quite chilly in the bunker, you should definitely take a jumper with you. Further along the Uferstrasse, you will find cosy restaurants serving delicious fish specialities. The Bürgenstock railway in Kehrsiten takes you to the Bürgenstock resort in five minutes. From there, you have a breathtaking view of the city of Lucerne, the lake and the mountains.

2: Adventure at the "Chabisstei" in Ennetmoos.
For family gangs, an adventure begins at the "Chabisstei" in Ennetmoos. The "Chärwald robber" reveals his secrets on the children's course. As even robbers need to eat something, there is a fire pit along the way where you can roast a Cervelat. The trail leads through a nature reserve, two small lakes (not for swimming) and through the Drachenried. Henry von Winkelried is said to have killed a dragon here a long time ago. The coat of arms of the municipality of Ennetmoos bears witness to this.

3: Cycle tour from Hergiswil towards Fräkmüntegg.
You really work up a sweat on the cycle tour from Hergiswil towards Fräkmüntegg. We reach the valley station of the Alpgschwänd aerial cableway, 300 metres higher up, with a magnificent view of the lake. Continue uphill to the Schönenboden mountain hut (open every weekend). If you want to go higher, continue to Fräkmüntegg. Over the Mülimäs you descend to the Schwendelberg and on to the Fridbach, over which you return to Hergiswil. The best place to cool off for the first time after this tour is in the Hergiswil bathing area in the lake.
