The village of Stansstad and the Bürgenstock mountain are located on Lake Lucerne in the midst of enchanting scenery, so it comes as no surprise that the region was inhabited more than 2000 years ago and, more recently, attracted world-famous celebrities.

Stansstad

The lake and the mountains are in close proximity in Stansstad. What better than a dip in the clean, refreshing water after a hike or an MTB or roller-skating tour? History and culture vultures will enjoy the exhibitions in the Sust building or concealed Fort Fürigen.

Kehrsiten pile dwelling settlement

In 2003 a recreational diver chanced on the remains of a pile dwelling settlement dating back to 4100-3100 BC. The settlement in Kehrsiten is now a UNESCO world heritage site of national importance.

The famous Bürgenstock Resort

Boat and funicular, footpaths, PostBus: the Bürgenstock can be reached any number of ways. With four hotels, international restaurants, sports facilities and a fantastic spa complex, the Bürgenstock Resort is unique worldwide. The resort experienced its heyday in the 1950s and 1960s, welcoming world stars such as Audrey Hepburn and Sophia Loren. Much more recently, nine years were spent renovating it in readiness for its reopening in the summer of 2017.

Walking on the Bürgenstock

It takes around 40 minutes to walk from the resort via the Cliff Path to the Hammetschwand Lift, Europe's tallest outdoor lift. The round walk from the Hammetschwand to the Villa Honegg and back to the Bürgenstock Resort takes 45 minutes or so. Once back in the resort, you can take the suspended stairs on your 40-minute walk down to Kehrsiten. Another possibility of walking to the resort is to drive via Ennetbürgen to Honegg, where you'll find a free municipal car park next to the Honegg barbecue spot. From there, you can walk to the Cliff Path and Hammetschwand Lift in 45 minutes, or directly to the Bürgenstock Resort in 20 minutes.
