The 4 Lakes Hike is one of the most beautiful hikes around Engelberg. The impressive mountain scenery around the mighty Titlis, the mountain flora, the mirror-smooth Trübsee, the deep blue Engstlensee, the turquoise Tannensee, the picturesque Melchsee, and the view of the distant Bernese Alps are just some of the highlights of this hike.

The starting point is Engelberg railway station, just a few minutes' walk from the Titlis valley station. From there, the route leads either on foot via the Untertrübsee alpine cheese dairy to Trübsee or directly to the middle station with the Titlis Xpress.

From Trübsee, the route continues to the Joch Pass – by chairlift or on foot for the more athletic. Once at the top, the Bärghuis Jochpass awaits with regional cuisine and a fantastic view of the Bernese Alps.

The descent leads downhill to the deep blue Engstlensee and continues up a steepening path to Tannalp. The rocky surroundings give way to a gentle moorland landscape. Along Tannensee and Melchsee, the route runs across the high plateau to Melchsee-Frutt. The return to the valley is by gondola lift to Stöckalp – or, for a more traditional experience, on foot via the hiking trail. From Stückalp, the PostBus takes you to Sarnen and then back with the Zentralbahn.

The following cableways and public transport are available for you to use: • Titlis Xpress (gondola) Engelberg – Trübsee • Chairlift Trübsee – Jochpass • Chairlift Jochpass – Engstlenalp • Fruttli-Zug (road train) Tannalp – Melchsee-Frutt • Gondola Melchsee-Frutt – Stöckalp • PostBus Stöckalp – Stans • Zentralbahn railway Stans – Engelberg
